Great news for Transport Health members! The merger between Transport Health and HCF was officially approved by APRA (Australian Prudential Regulation Authority) on Monday 12 December 2022 and completed on Sunday 1 January 2023.
We’re pleased to welcome Transport Health members into the HCF family.
Transport Health and HCF – what’s the link?
Transport Health became a wholly owned subsidiary of HCF as a result of a merger between RT Health (Transport Health’s owner) and HCF in November 2021.
Now, we’ve made it official with the merger uniting our two funds.
Since becoming part of the HCF Group, as a Transport Health member, you’ve enjoyed many benefits, including:
- The deferral of premium increases for seven months from April to November 2022.
- One month’s free health cover in November 2022. Eligible members received a month’s free health cover. Remember, you’ll also receive another free month in November 2023, provided you're eligible and remain a member with us.
- No premium increases or lower premium increases. In 2022, premium increases for Transport Health members were the lowest in 20 years.
- Our give back initiative. We returned $2.6 million in COVID claims savings to eligible members late last year.
You’ll continue to access member advantages and benefits like these, as well as the continued support and backing of Australia’s largest not-for profit fund.
What does the merger mean for Transport Health members?
Legally you’re now a HCF policyholder.
But for now, it’s business as usual. Your current cover will remain the same. There won’t be any significant changes for the next few months while we work through the most efficient and practical way to merge Transport Health members into the HCF family.
You won’t need to change any details or update any account access. Your health cover will remain the same. With your ongoing support, we will continue to deliver the very best support, care and cover to our members.
Will I still get the advantages I’ve been promised?
You sure will. You’ll still receive the great member advantages we’ve promised, including the second one-month free in November 2023 (provided you’re eligible and remain a member with us).
Who approved the merger and when?
We applied to the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) for a merger between Transport Health and HCF. APRA is an independent statutory authority that supervises financial institutions across Australia – including private health insurance.
The merger between Transport Health and HCF was officially approved by APRA (Australian Prudential Regulation Authority) on Monday 12 December 2022 and completed on Sunday 1 January 2023.
Will I have a HCF policy and membership number?
Once the merger is complete, you’ll officially become a policyholder of HCF.
Eventually we’ll transition your membership to fall under the RT Health brand so that you remain in a transport industry focused group.
It’s important for you to know that for the next few months nothing will change. You’ll continue to be covered by your current Transport Health policy with your current membership details, membership card and served by the same Transport Health team you’ve come to depend on.
For now, you’ll retain access to your online Member Services portal, your claiming app and the Transport Health website until we’re ready to transition you across to the RT Health platforms.
We’ll be there with you every step of the way to make sure you have all the information you need.
Why merge now?
Bringing Transport Health members into the fold is important to us.
Transport Health became a wholly owned subsidiary of HCF as a result of a merger between RT Health (Transport Health’s owner) and HCF in November 2021.
We’d now like to take that one step further and bring all our transport industry members into one defined group. This will enable us to provide a clear and consistent focus on member benefit and experience for both current Transport Health and RT Health members.
We’ll be able to focus our efforts on improvements to benefit all members by reducing admin, digital servicing and resources split over two member groups. Instead, we’ll be able to provide improved services by focusing our efforts on one group of members under the RT Health brand.
This will allow greater capacity to provide many of the great benefits of being part of the HCF family to members – including health and wellbeing programs, lower premium increases and an improved digital service offering.
What have Transport Health and RT Health got in common?
Transport Health and RT Health have been side by side for over six years now. Two of Australia’s oldest health funds, both with proud historical ties to the transport industry, working to provide great value health cover to hardworking Aussies.
We’re looking forward to uniting under one brand to represent transport industries and to a renewed commitment to industry workers, all as part of the wider HCF family.
Bringing these two sets of members together will mean more member-dedicated resources for a united membership and opportunity to focus on the provision of service to one core group of members.
In due course we’ll introduce you to RT Health’s range of covers and digital services including the online Member Services portal, claiming app, website and social media channels. But that’s a while down the track.
With your ongoing support, and together with the team at RT Health, we will continue delivering the very best support, care and cover to members.
We’ll keep you informed every step of the way as we start to make changes and updates that you need to know about.
When will I find out more?
We’re committed to keeping you fully informed through every step of the process, so you’ll know well in advance if there are any changes or updates you need to know about.
